Transliteration:( Thumma ba'asnaa min ba'dihim Moosaa Wa Haaroona ilaa Fir'awna wa mala'ihee bi aayaatinaa fastakbaroo wa kaanoo qawman mujrimeen )
"Then after them We sent Musa and Harun to Pharaoh and his chiefs with Our Signs [208]. But they were arrogant [209] and were a people of guilt." (Kanzul Imaan Translation)
This verse clarifies that Hazrat Musa (Alaihis Salaam) was a Prophet not only for the Israelites but for all Egyptians, including the Qibtis (Egyptians). The Pharaoh during Hazrat Musa's time was Musib bin Qaboos, and all Egyptian kings were referred to as Pharaoh. This shows that Hazrat Musa’s message was directed to everyone, not just the Israelites. During that time, Hazrat Musa was the king, and Hazrat Harun was his Prime Minister, reflecting their leadership roles in their mission.
The verse describes Pharaoh and his followers as being arrogant. Their arrogance is seen in their refusal to accept the divine message, as they were habitual offenders in matters of belief. They were cruel and oppressive in their deeds, rejecting the truth and indulging in infidelity and guilt. This highlights their spiritual blindness and moral corruption.
75. Then after them We sent Musa and Harun to Fir`awn and his chiefs with Our Ayat. But they behaved arrogantly and were a people who were criminals. 76. So when came to them the truth from Us, they said: “This is indeed clear magic.” 77. Musa said: “Say you (this) about the truth when it has come to you Is this magic But the magicians will never be successful.” 78. They said: “Have you come to us to turn us away from that we found our fathers following, and that you two may have greatness in the land We are not going to believe you two!”
Allah said:
(Then after them We sent ) meaning ofter these Messengers,
(Musa and Harun to Fir`awn and his chiefs,) meaning his people
(with Our Ayat.) meaning; `Our proofs and evidences.’
(But they behaved arrogantly, and were a people who were criminals.) meaning they were too arrogant to follow the truth and submit to it, and they were criminals.
(So, when came to them the truth from us, they said: “This is indeed clear magic.”) They were as if they gave an oath that what they had said was the truth. But they knew that what they were saying was a mere lie. As Allah said:
(And they belied them wrongfully and arrogantly, though they themselves were convinced thereof. )(27:14) Musa criticized them saying:
(“Say you (this) about the truth when it has come to you Is this magic But the magicians will never be successful.” They said: “Have you come to us to turn us away…)
(from that we found our fathers following) their religion.
(and that you two may have…)
(greatness) means grandeur and leadership
(…in the land, We are not going to believe you two!”)
(10:75) Then, after them,[72] We sent forth Moses and Aaron to Pharaoh and his chiefs with Our signs, but they waxed proud.[73] They were a wickd people.
72. (Surah Al-Aaraf, ayat 103-156) note 84-111 about the story of Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) and Pharaoh, already added to Surah Al- Aaraf, should be kept in view, as the things explained therein will not be repeated here.
73. “They behaved arrogantly” because of their wealth, power, pomp and show, and considered themselves above subjection to the Message. Therefore they showed haughtiness instead of surrender and obedience to it.
