Transliteration:( Wa imma nuriyannaka ba'dal lazee na'iduhum aw natawaffayannaka fa ilainaa marji'uhum thummal laahu shaheedun 'alaa maa yaf'aloon )
"And whether We show you some of what We have promised them [134] or We take you [135] before that (as they too must return to Us [136]), Allah is a Witness over what they do." (Kanzul Imaan Translation)
The phrase 'show you' refers to the manifestation of Allah’s promise during the physical life. This means that the events promised in the Qur'an could be revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) during his time on earth. Even though the Prophet (ﷺ) passed away, he continues to be spiritually connected to the world, perceiving it as if he sees it with the clarity of the palm of his hand. This highlights the divine insight granted to the Prophet (ﷺ), which extends beyond his physical death.
The verse emphasizes that 'showing' does not refer to the opposite of 'not showing', but rather points to the eventual demise of the Prophet (ﷺ). It suggests that even after the Prophet’s physical life, he remains aware of the world's affairs, dispelling the idea that the Prophet (ﷺ) would be ignorant of events after his death. His connection with the world is ongoing, and he continues to witness and intercede for the believers.
The verse mentions that all beings, including the infidels, will ultimately return to Allah. This return will not be voluntary for the disbelievers but will be under compulsion, as they will have no choice but to face the consequences of their actions. Turning to Allah willingly leads to reward, while the forced return of the disbelievers is marked by regret and punishment. The verse highlights the stark contrast between the believer's submission and the disbeliever’s forced reckoning with the divine.
46. Whether We show you some of what We promise them (the torment), or We cause you to die — still unto Us is their return, and moreover Allah is Witness over what they used to do. 47. And for every Ummah there is a Messenger; when their Messenger comes, the matter will be judged between them with justice, and they will not be wronged.
Allah said to His Messenger :
(Whether We show you some of what We promise them (the torment),) We shall avenge them in your lifetime so your eye will be delighted.
(Or We cause you to die — still unto Us is their return,) Allah will then be the Witness watching over their actions for you. Allah then said,
(And for every Ummah there is a Messenger; when their Messenger comes,) Mujahid said: “This will be on the Day of Resurrection.
(the matter will be judged between them with justice,) is similar to the Ayah:
(And the earth will shine with the light of its Lord (Allah),) ﴿39:69﴾ So every nation will be presented before Allah in the presence of its Messenger and the Book of its deeds. All good and evil deeds will be witnessed upon them. Their guardian angels will be witnesses too. The nations will be brought forth, one by one. Our noble Ummah, while it is the last of the nations, is the first one on the Day of Resurrection to be questioned and judged. This was stated by Allah’s Messenger in a Hadith recorded by both Al-Bukhari and Muslim. Allah’s Messenger said:
(We are the last, the first on the Day of Resurrection. We will be judged before the rest of the creatures.) His Ummah attains the honor of precedence only by the honor of its Messenger , may Allah’s peace and blesings be upon him forever, until the Day of Judgement.
(10:46) Whether We let you see (during your lifetime) some of the chastisement with which We threaten them, or We call you unto Us (before the chastisement strikes them), in any case they are bound to return to Us. Allah is witness to all what they do.
