📖 Commentary of Surah Yunus – Verse 107
"And if Allah afflicts you with harm, then there is none to remove it except Him [274]. And if He desires good for you, then there is none to repel His favor [275]. He causes it to reach whom He wills of His servants. And He is the Forgiving, the Merciful." (Kanzul Imaan Translation)
✅ [274] Divine Sovereignty Over Adversity
This verse establishes Allah's absolute control over all matters of harm and benefit. While no created being can independently remove difficulties or grant blessings, the verse does not negate the power of sincere supplication (dua) and righteous actions. Through these means, Allah in His mercy may choose to alter circumstances, as demonstrated when the lifespan of Prophet Dawood (AS) was extended due to Prophet Adam's (AS) prayers. This reflects Allah's attribute as At-Tawwab (The Accepter of Repentance), showing His willingness to respond to His servants' pleas while maintaining ultimate authority over all affairs.
✅ [275] The Reality of Divine Grace
The verse emphasizes that true goodness comes exclusively from Allah. The "favor" mentioned has been interpreted by scholars in multiple profound ways: as referring to the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) who embodies truth and guidance, to the Quran which contains absolute truth, or to Islam itself as the complete and perfect religion. Just as a tree cannot bear alien fruit, the Prophet (SAW) could never utter falsehood, being protected by Allah. This verse ultimately teaches that all genuine benefit stems from Allah alone, whether through His direct grace or through the channels He has established like prophets, revelation, and righteous believers.
