The summary/theme of the surah Al-An'am:

This Surah was revealed in the Holy City of Mecca, the emphasis in this chapter is on monotheism or the Oneness of God. Seventy times the name of God, Allah, is mentioned in this chapter, and idolatry and polytheism are strongly condemned.

Lesson learned from Al-An'am:

  1. Allāh sent many nations before us but when they disbelieved, He removed them and sent others.
  2. Those who mock the punishments of Allāh will be faced with the same punishments they would mock at when warned of.
  3. All things disputed in this world will become clear on the Day of Judgement.
  4. Everyone believes in Allāh when faced with difficulties, but when that difficulty is lifted, becomes neglectful of Him.
  5. If you try following the opinion of the majority of people on Earth, you’ll stray from the right path.
  6. Leave all types of sin.
  7. Allāh is best aware of whom to bestow with prophethood.
  8. Don’t kill your offspring in fear of poverty; Allāh alone is the Sustainer. He sustains you and them.
  9. When measuring and weighing, do not deceive people.
  10.   The Qur’ān is blessed, and practicing upon it attracts the Mercy of Allāh.
  11.  Whoever performs a single good deed, will be rewarded ten-fold, while a sin will only be recompensed for its like.
  12. Allāh gave some of us a lower rank than others so that He may test us with what He gave us.

Transliteration:( Zaalika al lam yakkur Rabbuka muhlikal quraa bizulminw wa ahluhaa ghaafiloon )

131. This is so because your Lord destroys not the town unjustly (291), while their people are unaware (292).

132. And for one there are degrees in accordance with their deeds (293). And your Lord is not unaware of their actions.

Transliteration:( Wa Rabbukal ghaniyyu zur rahmah; iny yasha' yuz hibkum wa yastakhlif mim ba'dikum maa yashaaa'u kamaaa ansha akum min zurriyyati qawmin aakhareen )

133.And (O Beloved Prophet) Your Lord is SelfSufficient, Merciful. O mankind! If He wills, He may take you away and bring some others whom He wills in your place, just as He created you from the offspring of other people (294),

Transliteration:( Inna maa too'adoona la aatinw wa maaa antum bimu'jizeen )

134. Undoubtedly, what is promised to you (295) is sure to come and you cannot get frustrated.

Transliteration:( Qul yaa qawmi' maloo 'alaa makaanatikum innee 'aamilun fasawfa ta'lamoona man takoonu lahoo 'aaqibatud daar; innahoo laa yuflihuz zaalimoon )

135. Please declare: "O my people! You continue doing your business in your places. I will do my work" (296). Now, you wish to know who has the ultimate abode (297). Surely, the unjust do not prosper.

Transliteration:( Wa ja'aloo lillaahi mimmaa zara-a minal harsi walan'aami naseeban faqaaloo haazaa lillaahi biza'mihim wa haaza lishurakaa'inaa famaa kaana lishurakaaa'ihim falaa yasilu ilal laahi wa maa kaana lillaahi fahuwa yasilu ilaa shurakaaa'ihim; saaa'a maa yahkumoon )

136. And whatever Allah has produced from the crops by tillage and created cattle, they say: "This is for Allah, according to their fancy, and this is for our associates (298)". Then that which is of their associates does not reach God (299), and that which is for God reaches their associates. What an evil judgment they assign (300).

Transliteration:( Wa kazaalika zaiyana likaseerim minal mushrikeena qatla awlaadihim shurakaaa'uhum liyurdoohum wa liyalbisoo 'alaihim deenahum wa law shaaa'al laahu maa fa'aloohu fazarhum wa maa yaftaroon )

137. And thus their associates have made to appear fair the killing of their offspring (301), in the eyes of many polytheists, so that they may kill them and may confuse them in their religion(302). And had Allah willed, they would not have done so. Therefore, you leave them, for they are (303), with their fabrications (304).

Transliteration:( Wa qaaloo haaziheee an'aamunw wa harsun hijrun laa yat'amuhaaa illaa man nashaaa'u biza'mihim wa an'aamun hurrimat zuhooruhaa wa an'aamul laa yazkuroonas mal laahi 'alaihaf tiraaa'an 'alaiyyh; sa yajzeehim bimaa kaanoo yaftaroon )

138. And they said: "These cattle and crops are forbidden (305), only those could cut them whom We accept". So they have false notions (306). And there are some cattle over which riding is forbidden (307), and some cattle over which they do not pronounce the name of Allah at the time of slaughtering. This is all to assert a lie against (308). Allah. Soon, He will give the award for their fabrication.

Transliteration:( Wa qaaloo maa fee butooni haazihil an'aami khaalisatul lizukoorinaa wa muharramun 'alaaa azwaajinaa wa iny yakum maitatan fahum feehi shurakaaa'; sa yajzeehim wasfahum; innahoo Hakeemun 'Aleem )

139. And they say: "Whatever is in the bellies of these cattle solely belongs to our males and is forbidden to our females. And if it were born dead, then all of them are partners therein (309). Soon Allah will award them for their actions. Surely, He is Most Wise, All-Knowing.

Transliteration:( Qad khasiral lazeena qatalooo awlaadahum safaham bighairi 'ilminw wa harramoo maa razaqahumul laahuf tiraaa'an 'alal laah; qad dalloo wa maa kaanoo muhtadeen )

140. Undoubtedly, those who kill their offspring (310), by their foolishness and ignorance (311), are ruined (312), and make unlawful what Allah has provided for them, forging a lie against Allah (313). Indeed, they have strayed and have not adopted the correct way (314).
