The summary/theme of the Surah Al-Isra

 The disbelievers of Makkah are admonished to take lessons from the miserable end of the Israelites and other communities and mend their ways from this Surah, which is a wonderful blend of warning, admonition, and instruction. In this Surah important event has been mentioned regarding the night journey of our Holy Prophet to the heavens and meeting with Allah

Lesson learned from Surah Al-Isra

  1. On the Day of Judgement, everyone shall be handed their book of deeds, which will have every minute detail of their lives recorded. They themselves will be able to envisage their outcome that day. 
  2. Whoever strives solely behind the luxuries of this world, Allāh will give them whatever He wishes to, not what they themselves want, and then doom them to Jahannam.
  3. Whoever strives to acquire the luxuries of the Hereafter properly, Allāh will appreciate his/her efforts. 
  4. Each person will be responsible for his/her own burdens on the Day of Qiyāmah; not for those of others.  
  5. Be good to parents.  
  6. Make this du‘ā regularly for your parents:

بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

 

ٱنظُرۡ كَيۡفَ فَضَّلۡنَا بَعۡضَهُمۡ عَلَىٰ بَعۡضٖۚ وَلَلۡأٓخِرَةُ أَكۡبَرُ دَرَجَٰتٖ وَأَكۡبَرُ تَفۡضِيلٗا
 Transliteration:( Unzur kaifa faddalnaa ba'dahum 'alaa ba'd; wa lal Aakhiratu akbaru darajaatinw wa akbaru tafdeelaa )

21. See you; how We have preferred опе over another? And without doubt the Hereafter is greatest in degrees and in preferment (55).

 Transliteration:( Wa qadaa Rabbuka allaa ta'budooo illaaa iyyaahu wa bilwaalidaini ihsaanaa; immaa yablughanna 'indakal kibara ahaduhumaaa aw kilaahumaa falaa taqul lahumaaa uffinw wa laa tanharhumaa wa qullahumaa qawlan kareemaa )

23. And your Lord has Commanded you that you should worship none except for Him and you should do good (57) with your parents. If either or both of them reach old age (58) then you should not utter any faint cry (59) to them and do not chide them and speak to them with respectful words (60).

وَٱخۡفِضۡ لَهُمَا جَنَاحَ ٱلذُّلِّ مِنَ ٱلرَّحۡمَةِ وَقُل رَّبِّ ٱرۡحَمۡهُمَا كَمَا رَبَّيَانِي صَغِيرٗا
 Transliteration:( Wakhfid lahumaa janaahaz zulli minar rahmati wa qur Rabbir hamhumaa kamaa rabbayaanee sagheera )

24. And spread for them the arm of humility with tender heart (61), and say, 'O my Lord, have mercy on them both as they had brought me up in my childhood (62).

25. Your Lord knows well what is in your hearts, if you are righteous, then no doubt, He is Most Forgiving to those who repent (63).

26. And give your kinsmen their right (64), and to the needy and to the traveller (65), and do not spend extravagantly (66).

 Transliteration:( Innal mubazzireena kaanoo ikhwaanash shayaateeni wa kaanash shaytaanu li Rabbihee kafooraa )

27. No doubt, the extravagant ones are the brothers of Satan. And the devil is very ungrateful to his Lord(67).

 Transliteration:( Wa immaa tu'ridanna 'anhum ubtighaaa'a rahmatim mir rabbika tarjoohaa faqul lahum qawlam maisooraa )

28. If you turn your face away from them seeking the mercy of Allah for which you have hoped, then speak to them in gentle words (68).

29. And keep not your hands tied (69), with your neck, nor open it ompletely lest you sit down (70), lamed and tired (71).
