Quran Quote  :

Quran-7:140 Surah Al-araf English Translation,Transliteration and Tafsir(Tafseer).

Transliteration:( Qaala a-ghairal laahi abgheekum ilaahanw wa Huwa faddalakum 'alal 'aalameen )

140. He said: "Shall I seek for a god (298) other than Allah, whereas He has exalted you above all the peoples of the world (299)?"

Surah Al-Araf Ayat 140 Tafsir (Commentry)

  • Tafseer-e-Naeemi (Ahmad Yaar Khan)
  • Ibn Kathir
  • Ala-Madudi

298. By this, it means He is not God who is made by searching, but Allah Almighty is He who has bestowed greatness upon you, who is capable of having the power of bestowing so many favors upon this world. Only He is worthy of worship.

299. From this emerge two issues:

1. To be from the descendants of a Prophet and from his people is a means of blessings. The greatness of the Israelites was that they were descendants of the Prophets. In a similar manner the Sayyids today, too, are distinguished people, provided they are believers. After forsaking Faith they are no longer Sayyed. It should be remembered that at that point in time, the Israelites were superior to other people in the world.

2. The thought of infidelity is not infidelity. otherwise, these people would not have been honored like this.

Ibn-Kathir

140. He said: “Shall I seek for you an ilah (a god) other than Allah, while He has given you superiority over the nations.” 141. And (remember) when We rescued you from Fir`awn’s people, who were afflicting you with the worst torment, killing your sons and letting your women live. And in that was a great trial from your Lord.

Reminding the Children of Israel of Allah’s Blessings for Them

Musa reminded the Children of Israel of Allah’s blessings, such as saving them from Fir`awn, his tyranny and the humiliation and disgrace they suffered. He reminded them of the glory and revenge against their enemy, when they watched them suffering in disgrace, destroyed by drowning and meeting utter demise. We mentioned this subject in the Tafsir of Surat Al-Baqarah.

(7:140) Moses said: ‘Should I seek any god for you other than Allah although it is He who has exalted you above all?’
