📖 Commentary on Surah Al-A‘raaf – Verse 194

Indeed, those whom you invoke besides Allah are servants like yourselves [447]. Therefore, call upon them and let them respond to you, if you are truthful [448].

✅ False Deities Are Created Beings Like You [447]

This verse reminds the idolaters that those they worship besides Allah are also created beings, and in that sense, no different from themselves. In fact, humans are superior to these so-called gods—whether they are stars, the moon, stones, or idols like Lāt and Manāt. This comparison highlights the absurdity of equating man with lifeless objects.

While it is said about Prophets, “a man like you,” it does not imply equality. Just as no one claims similarity with Abu Jahl or Abu Lahab out of disgrace, likewise, claiming equality with Prophets—who are divinely chosen—is flawed. Faith and divine rank differentiate humans just as much as status and rejection do.

✅ Challenge to Prove Their Power [448]

The verse throws a challengecall upon your false gods and see if they respond or fulfill your needs. If they truly had divine power, they should be able to answer your prayers. Since they cannot, this proves they are unworthy of worship and exposes the falsehood of associating them with Allah.
