Transliteration:( Wa qaaloo Rabbanaaa innaaa ata'naa saadatanaa wa kubaraaa'anaa fa adalloonas sabeelaa )
"And they will say: 'O our Lord we obeyed our chiefs and our elders [190], and they led us astray from the way'. (Kanzul Imaan Translation)"
On the Day of Judgement, the disbelievers will attempt to shift blame for their misguidance, saying they only followed their leaders and elders—those who influenced them to reject the truth.
Their plea essentially means: “Do not punish us, punish those who misled us.” However, these so-called chiefs refer to the leaders of disbelief, not the saints or pious scholars of Islam.
To falsely include righteous figures in this category is a grave deception and an act of irreligiousness. This verse teaches that blind obedience to worldly leaders, without discerning right from wrong, leads to destruction—and everyone is accountable for their own choices.
