📖 Commentary of Surah Al-Baqarah – Verse 105

"Those who disbelieve from the People of the Book [206] or the polytheists do not wish that any good should be sent down to you from your Lord. But Allah chooses for His Mercy whom He wills, and Allah is the Possessor of Great Bounty."

[206] The Ill Intent of Disbelievers Toward Muslims

  • This verse exposes the deep-rooted jealousy and enmity that exists in the hearts of disbelievers, whether they are from the People of the Book (Jews and Christians) or idolaters.

  • They do not wish for any form of goodness, guidance, or revelation to be sent to the Muslims.

  • 🛡️ Lesson: Muslims must understand that non-believers are not sincere well-wishers.
Those who naively trust their intentions may one day fall victim to betrayal and hostility.

Allah Grants His Mercy by His Will

  • Divine mercy is not controlled by human desire or hatred.

  • Allah chooses whom He wills to bestow His mercy, guidance, and revelation upon — regardless of what others wish or plot.

  • This is a direct affirmation of the Prophet Muhammad’s ﷺ selection and the truth of Islam, despite opposition.

Allah Is the Owner of Infinite Bounty

  • The verse ends by affirming that Allah is the Possessor of Great Bounty (Fadl-e-Azeem).

  • His blessings are limitless, and He gives generously to those whom He chooses.

  • This assures the believers that no envy, conspiracy, or opposition can stop the favor of Allah from reaching them.
