📖 Commentary of Verse 98 (Surah Al-Baqarah)

"Whoever is an enemy of Allah and His angels and His Messengers and Jibraeel [188] and Mikaeel, then surely, Allah is an enemy to the infidels. [189]"

✅ [188] The Superiority of Jibraeel (عليه السلام)

From this verse, we understand the high status of Hazrat Jibraeel (عليه السلام), as his name is mentioned first among all the angels.

  • Jibraeel (عليه السلام) is responsible for bringing revelation, which is the spiritual nourishment for all of humanity.

  • Mikaeel (عليه السلام), by contrast, brings rain and physical sustenance—which supports material life.

This ordering signifies that spiritual guidance through revelation is superior to physical sustenance, and hence, Jibraeel holds a higher rank.

✅ [189] Enmity Toward the Beloved of Allah Is Enmity Toward Allah Himself

This verse teaches that love and loyalty toward Allah’s pious beings—including Prophets, angels, and saints—is a form of love for Allah.

On the contrary, harboring malice against them is tantamount to enmity with Allah.

Allah states elsewhere:

"Then follow me, Allah will love you." (Surah Aal-Imran: 31)

This proves that Allah’s love is linked to following and honoring His beloveds.

  • Anyone who opposes Jibraeel or Mikaeel, or any Prophet or righteous servant, has opposed Allah’s will,

  • And thus becomes deserving of Allah’s enmity.

Additionally, enmity toward one angel is treated as enmity toward all, just as opposing one Prophet is a rejection of all Prophets.
