(121) Those to whom We have given the Book recite it with its true recital.[39] They [are the ones who] believe in it. And whoever disbelieves in it - it is they who are the losers. (Saheen International Translation)

Surah Al-Baqarah Ayat 121 Tafsir (Commentry)

242. From this verse we learn that only he will be from the people of the Book who has been blessed with the guidance of practising it and remaining steadfast upon it. Just to be called among the People of the Book while misusing and misreading it, is sheer hypocrisy and a meaningless claim of being from the Ahle Kitaab. One who reads the Book of Allah with sincerity and devotion is a true believer in the Holy Prophet and hence only those who have brought Imaan are the true followers Prophet of these Books, while those who have rejected the Holy Prophet are not the true followers of these Books.

Ibn-Kathir

The tafsir of Surah Baqarah verse 121 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Baqarah ayat 120 which provides the complete commentary from verse 120 through 121.

(2:121) Those to whom We have given the Scripture, and who recite it as it ought to be recited, they truly believe in it;[122] and those who disbelieve in it, they are the real losers.

Ala-Maududi

(2:121) Those to whom We have given the Scripture, and who recite it as it ought to be recited, they truly believe in it;[122] and those who disbelieve in it, they are the real losers.

122. This refers to the pious element among the People of the Book. Since these people read the Book with sincerity and honesty of purpose, they are inclined to accept whatever they find to be true according to it.

(121) Those to whom We have given the Book recite it with its true recital.[39] They [are the ones who] believe in it. And whoever disbelieves in it - it is they who are the losers.
