Transliteration:( Wa iz qataltum nafsan faddaara'tum feehaa wallaahu mukhrijum maa kuntum taktumoon )
"And (recall) when you slew [131] a man and disputed over it. But Allah was to bring out that which you were concealing."
Although the murder was committed by one individual, there were many accomplices, and that is why the plural form of the verb “you slew” is used.
Also, the Yahud during the time of the Holy Prophet ﷺ were descendants of these Israelites, and hence they are being addressed in this verse.
This is similar to when we say to Hindus, "We ruled India for 800 years,"—we are actually referring to our ancestors ruling over their ancestors.
The same principle applies here: the actions of their forefathers are attributed to them because they inherit the legacy, beliefs, and history of their people.
