Transliteration:( Man zal lazee yuqridul laaha qardan hasanan fayudaa 'ifahoo lahoo ad'aafan kaseerah; wallaahu yaqbidu wa yabsutu wa ilaihi turja'oon )
245. Who is it that will loan [605] to Allah a good loan [606], so that Allah may increase it for him many times [607]? And Allah restricts and expands [608]. And to Him you will return. [609]
According to pious sages, giving a loan to someone in need—especially during hardship—is a highly virtuous act.
🔹 In some cases, a loan may even surpass charity in reward, as charity can go to anyone, but a loan is usually sought by someone genuinely in need.
Qarze-Hasana is a pure, interest-free loan, given:
With no expectation of repayment, or
Where repayment is not enforced, and forgiveness is encouraged if the borrower is unable to repay.
Key conditions for it to be accepted by Allah:
It should be given sincerely for the sake of Allah.
It must come from lawfully earned wealth.
It must be offered willingly, without pressure or delay, and with no intention to cause burden.
🔹 Sometimes, voluntary charity is also referred to as qarze-hasana metaphorically.
The phrase “so that Allah may increase it for him many times” shows that:
Allah accepts this symbolic loan as an act of deep faith,
And rewards it manifold in both worldly barakah (blessings) and eternal rewards.
🔹 This also reflects Allah’s love for the poor, as He refers to the loan given to them as a loan given to Himself.
The line “And Allah restricts and expands” teaches:
Allah has complete control over the rise and fall of wealth,
He may test some with poverty and bless others with abundance—all according to His wisdom.
🔹 It also implies that spending in Allah’s way never truly decreases wealth—rather, it attracts barakah.
The reminder “And to Him you will return” emphasizes:
Whatever you give or withhold, you will be accountable before Allah,
Spend and give while you have time, for your deeds await you in the Hereafter.
🔹 As the Sufis explain: Life’s conditions fluctuate—power, knowledge, and wealth are all temporary and variable, but your return to Allah is certain.

(2:245) Who of you will lend Allah a goodly loan[267] which He will return after multiplying it for him manifold? For Allah has the power both to decrease and increase, and to Him will you be returned.
267. ‘Goodly loan’ signifies whatever one gives to another person selflessly, and from absolutely pure motives. God describes whatever man spends in this manner as a loan made to none other than Him, and He undertakes to repay that loan and to repay it several-fold. The stipulation, however. is that the loan should be a ‘goodly’ one; that is, it should not he tainted with selfish designs and should be given for the sake of God, to be spent for purposes pleasing to Him
They said: ‘And why would we not fight in the way of Allah when we have been torn from our homes and our children?’ But when fighting was ordained for them they turned back, except a few of them. Allah is well aware of the wrong-doers.
