Transliteration:( Allazeena yunfiqoona amwaalahum billaili wan nahaari sirranw wa 'alaaniyatan falahum ajruhum 'inda Rabbihim wa laa khawfun 'alaihim wa laa hum yahzanoon )
"Those who spend their wealth (in the way of Allah) by night and by day, secretly and openly [725], will have their reward with their Lord. They shall have no fear, nor shall they grieve [726]."
This verse was revealed in honor of Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddiq (RA) — the closest companion and supporter of the Prophet ﷺ.
From this verse, we learn that charity can be given both publicly and privately:
Compulsory charity (Zakat) is encouraged to be given openly, to inspire others and avoid suspicion.
Voluntary charity (Sadaqah) is best given privately, preserving sincerity and humility.
An important lesson is drawn from the actions of Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddiq (RA), who gave away 40,000 gold coins in four different ways:
10,000 during the day
10,000 during the night
10,000 openly
10,000 secretly
This comprehensive act of charity shows his unmatched dedication, and how he fulfilled every dimension of giving in the way of Allah.
This verse confirms that Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddiq (RA) is truly deserving of immense reward.
His sincere deeds have attained complete acceptance in the sight of Allah.
He is among the true Friends of Allah (Awliya) — honored both in this world and in the Hereafter.
He is described as being:
Free from all distress and sorrow,
And given the noble title “Ateeq”, meaning freed from the Hellfire — a title conferred upon him by the Prophet ﷺ himself.
This verse affirms that those who give in Allah’s path with sincerity, whether in public or private, will face no fear in the Hereafter and will be free from all grief.
