Transliteration:( Wattaqoo yawmal laa tajzee nafsun 'an nafsin shai 'anw wa laa yuqbalu minhaa 'adlunw wa laa tanfa'uhaa shafaa 'atunw wa laa hum yunsaroon )
"And be mindful [245] of the Day when no soul will compensate for another soul [246] at all. No ransom will be accepted, nor will any intercession benefit the disbelievers, nor will they be helped [247]."
It should be noted that whenever 'fire' is mentioned after 'taqwa' (piety), it signifies safeguarding oneself from Hellfire.
However, when the discussion is about the Day of Judgment or the remembrance of Allah, then taqwa refers to fear and awe of Allah.
📌 In this verse, the command “be mindful” (ittaqu) implies:
Fear Allah, for no one will be able to protect themselves or others on that Day of Qiyamah.
The reference to the first “soul” in the verse refers to all living beings, while the second “soul” refers specifically to the infidels (disbelievers).
This means:
On the Day of Judgment, no soul will be able to substitute for the disbelievers or intervene on their behalf.
📌 The mention of believers and their fate has been discussed in other verses; here, the focus is on the punishment and despair of the non-believers.
All the chastisements and prohibitions in this verse are meant for non-believers only.
Muslims will not be subject to these horrors.
In fact, the disbelievers may be used as ransom for Muslims (as some traditions explain).
Help and intercession will be granted to Muslims, which is confirmed in other parts of the Qur’an.
📖 As Allah Almighty says:
“My righteous bondsmen shall inherit the earth.” (Surah 21: Verse 105)
This clearly distinguishes the destiny of the believers from that of the disbelievers on the Day of Judgment.
