📖 Commentary of Surah Al-Baqarah – Verse 117

"The Originator of the heavens and the earth. When He decrees a matter, He only says to it, 'Be,' and it is [235]."

✅ [235] Allah’s Supreme Power of Creation

This verse refers to the supreme and boundless power of Allah, who is the Originator—the one who brought the heavens and the earth into existence without precedent.

When Allah wills something, He simply says "Be", and it comes into existence instantly.

✅ No Contradiction with Other Verses

Verses such as:

  • “In six days...” (Surah 7: Verse 54)

  • “He creates you from a sperm-drop...” (Surah 76: Verse 2)

are not contradictory.
They explain the divine process or decree in the physical world, which Allah has wisely ordained.

While Allah is fully capable of creating anything instantly, He often brings things about through natural processes as part of the world of matter.

✅ The World of Command vs. the World of Matter

The verse uses the phrase “command”, which refers to the ‘Alam al-Amr’ (World of Command) — the non-material world such as souls, angels, and divine light, which are created directly by "Be".

📖 As Allah says:

“Say: The spirit is from the command of my Lord.” (Surah 17: Verse 85)

By contrast, the world of matter includes physical creation like human beings, which proceed through natural developmental stages, such as from sperm to clot to flesh.

📌 Both types of creation — immediate and gradual — are manifestations of Allah’s power and there is no contradiction between them.
