📖 Commentary of Verse 71 (Surah Al-Baqarah)

"He (Musa) said: 'He (Allah) says; it is a cow neither trained to plough the earth, nor to irrigate the fields, one free from fault, having no blemish on her.' [129] They said: 'Now you have come with the truth.' Then they slaughtered her, though they were not willing to do so. [130]"

✅ [129] Qualities of a Sacrificial Animal and the Reward for Obedience

This verse suggests that animals used for sacrifice should be free from any physical defects.

Only one man possessed a cow that satisfied all the required qualities. This man had lost his father in childhood and was known for being extremely obedient to his mother.

As a price for the cow, it was agreed to fill its skin with gold—an extraordinarily high price.

This story shows that obedient children are rewarded, both in this world and in the Hereafter.

✅ [130] Lessons on Piety and Sacrifice

Three key lessons are clarified by this verse:

  1. Serving one’s mother is an act of great piety.

  2. The sacrifice of a cow is given special importance over other animals in specific divine instructions.

  3. Sacrificial animals should be well-bred, flawless, and of high quality, reflecting the sincerity of the one offering the sacrifice.
