Quran Quote  :

Quran-2:136 Surah Al-baqarah English Translation,Transliteration and Tafsir(Tafseer).

Transliteration:( Qoolooo aamannaa billaahi wa maaa unzila ilainaa wa maaa unzila ilaaa Ibraaheema wa Ismaa'eela wa Ishaaqa wa Ya'qooba wal Asbaati wa maaootiya Moosa wa 'Eesaa wa maaa ootiyan Nabiyyoona mir Rabbihim laa nufarriqoo baina ahadim minhum wa nahnu lahoo muslimoon )

136. Say (O Muslims): "We have believed in Allah and what has been revealed to us and what has been revealed to Ebrahim, Ismail, Ishaaq (271), Yaqub and the descendants (272) and what has been bestowed upon Musa and Isa and what has been bestowed to the rest of the Prophets (273)from their Lord. (We make no distinction in faith (274) between any of them and we have submitted to Him".

Surah Al-Baqarah Ayat 136 Tafsir (Commentry)

  • Tafseer-e-Naeemi (Ahmad Yaar Khan)
  • Ibn Kathir
  • Ala-Madudi

271. Hazrat Is'haaq, and Hazrat Yaqub were not given new Sahifas (Scrolls), but they were preaching the SAHIFA revealed to Hazrat Ebrahim, hence in the verse the word 'has been revealed is not used separately by them.
272. Some Ulema use this verse as a proof for regarding that all the children of Hazrat Yaqub were Prophets including the brothers of Hazrat Yusuf as his entire lineage has been included herein by Allah Almighty.
273. From this we should remember to believe in all Prophets of Allah without specifying an exact number to the Prophets, for this (exact number) has not been conclusively proven from any definite source. We also learn that there is a difference in status between individual Prophets, but there is no difference in Prophethood.
274. We do not possess the right to distinguish one Prophet from the other. Our duty is to believe in all the Prophets withoutrejecting any one of them. However, we should accept whatever distinction Allah has made between His Prophets.
From this verse two points emerge:
1 All the Prophets are equal in respect of Prophethood, none is counterfeit or transitory. All are genuine and authentic.
2. It is Fard (obligatory) to believe in all the Prophets. To reject even one is an act of Kufr (infidelity). However there is a difference in status between them, some enjoy a higher rank than others.

Ibn-Kathir

135. And they say, “Be Jews or Christians, then you will be guided.” Say (to them O Muhammad ), “Nay, (we follow) only the religion of Ibrahim, Hanif (Islamic Monotheism), and he was not of Al-Mushrikin (those who worshipped others along with Allah.

Muhammad bin Ishaq reported that Ibn `Abbas said that `Abdullah bin Suriya Al-A`war said to the Messenger of Allah, “The guidance is only what we (Jews) follow. Therefore, follow us, O Muhammad, and you will be rightly guided.” Also, the Christians said similarly, so Allah revealed,

﴿وَقَالُواْ كُونُواْ هُودًا أَوْ نَصَـرَى تَهْتَدُواْ﴾

(And they say, “Be Jews or Christians, then you will be guided.”) Allah’s statement,

﴿قُلْ بَلْ مِلَّةَ إِبْرَهِيمَ حَنِيفًا﴾

(Say (to them O Muhammad ), “Nay, (we follow) only the religion of Ibrahim, Hanif) means, “We do not need the Judaism or Christianity that you call us to, rather,

﴿مِلَّةَ إِبْرَهِيمَ حَنِيفاً﴾

((we follow) only the religion of Ibrahim, Hanif) meaning, on the straight path, as Muhammad bin Ka`b Al-Qurazi and `Isa bin Jariyah stated. Also, Abu Qilabah said, “The Hanif is what the Messengers, from beginning to end, believed in.”)

(2:136) Say: “We believe in Allah, and in what has been revealed to us and to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob and the descendants (of Jacob) and in what was given to Moses and Jesus and in what the other Prophets received from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them,[136] and we are those who submit to Allah.”

136. To make no distinction between the Prophets means not to hold some of them to he right and the others to be wrong, not to recognize some to have been the recipients of Divine revelation and the others not. All the Prophets sent by God invited men to the same Truth and to the same way. Hence for anyone who is really a lover of Truth it is necessary that he should recognize all of them to be its bearers. Those who believe in one particular Prophet and disbelieve in others do not in fact believe even in that particular Prophet in whom they, claim to believe, for they have not grasped the nature of that universal ‘Straight Way’ (al-sirat al-mustaqim) which was enunciated by Moses, Jesus and the other Prophets. When such people claim to follow a Prophet they, really mean that they do so out of deference to their forefathers. Their religion in fact consists of bigoted ancestor-worship and blind imitation of inherited customs rather than sincere adherence to the directives of any Prophet of God.
