Transliteration:( Haaa antum haaa'ulaaa'i jaadaltum 'anhum fil hayaatid dunyaa famai yujaadilul laaha 'anhum Yawmal Qiyaamati am mai yakoonu 'alaihim wakeelaa )
“It is you who have pleaded on behalf of them in the life of this world. Who will plead on behalf of them on the Day of Judgement [343], or who will be their defender [on that day]?”
This verse is a divine rebuke to those who defended the guilty (like Tam‘a and his supporters) in this world through false testimony and tribal loyalty.
Allah reminds them that while they may argue or protect others here on earth, no such defense will be possible on the Day of Judgment—a day when only truth will stand.
However, this does not negate the concept of intercession (Shafa‘ah).
The Qur’an and Hadith both affirm intercession by Allah's permission:
“Who is he that would intercede with Him save by His leave?” (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:255)
The Holy Prophet ﷺ also said that even a miscarried baby will plead for the forgiveness of its parents, similar to how a creditor presses a debtor. The child will be told:
“O miscarried baby, please your Lord.”
Such intercession, however, is graceful, humble, and never in opposition to the will of Allah.
Thus, this verse warns against deceitful pleading in worldly matters, while affirming that true intercession in the Hereafter is a privileged act, granted only by Allah’s permission and within His justice and mercy.
