📖 Commentary of Surah An-Nisa – Verse 112

“And whoever earns [346] a fault or a sin, then blames it on an innocent (person) has certainly borne that falsehood (slander) and a clear sin.”

✅ The Severity of Blaming the Innocent [346]

In this verse, the word “sin” refers to major sins, while “fault” refers to minor sins.

To falsely accuse an innocent person of a sin—whether the innocent individual is a believer or a non-believer—is a grave act of injustice and clear transgression.

This was revealed in the context of Tam‘a, who had accused an innocent Jewish man to cover his own crime. The Qur’an condemns such actions in the strongest terms, stating that false accusation combines both slander and major sin.

This verse upholds the principle that truth and justice transcend religious identity, and that fabricating blame against anyone is deeply sinful in the sight of Allah.
