📖 Commentary of Surah An-Nisa – Verse 126

“And to Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and all [377] that is on the earth. And Allah has encompassed all things completely.”

✅ Allah’s Ownership of All Creation [377]

By the phrase “all that is on the earth and in the heavens”, it is not meant that only visible or known objects belong to Allah Almighty and others are excluded.

Rather, because human perception is limited to observable things, the verse specifically mentions what we can see—the heavens and the earth.

However, in reality, everything—whether visible or unseen, material or immaterial—belongs entirely to Allah Almighty.

✅ The All-Encompassing Knowledge and Power of Allah

The concluding part of the verse states that Allah has encompassed all things completely, meaning:

  • His knowledge, power, and dominion extend to everything without exception.

  • Nothing escapes His authority, not in the heavens, the earth, or beyond.

This affirms the absolute sovereignty of Allah, leaving no room for doubt or exception.

Ibn-Kathir

The tafsir of Surah Nisa verse 126 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Nisa ayat 123 which provides the complete commentary from verse 123 through 126.

(4:126) Whatever is in the heavens and in the earth belongs to Allah;[150] Allah en-compasses everything.[151]

Ala-Maududi

(4:126) Whatever is in the heavens and in the earth belongs to Allah;[150] Allah en-compasses everything.[151]

150. To submit to God is the best course for man, for it conforms fully to ultimate reality. Since God is the Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that lies therein, the only right attitude for man is to give up his unlimited freedom and willingly commit himself to serve and obey God.

151. If man will neither submit to God nor stop acting in defiance of Him, he should bear in mind that he can never escape from God’s grip, for His power encompasses him completely.

(126) And to Allāh belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And ever is Allāh, of all things, encompassing.
