📖 Commentary of Surah An-Nisa – Verse 9

"And let those (executors and guardians) fear [28] as if they had left behind weak offspring and feared for them. So let them fear Allah and speak a righteous word [29]."

✅ Guardians Must Empathize with the Orphans [28]

The guardians and legal counselors of orphans under their care should remember to treat these orphans as if they were their own children.

  • They should ask themselves:
"If I had left behind weak children, how would I want others to treat them?"

  • This verse provides excellent moral instruction:

Always do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
Desire for others what you desire for yourself.

This principle builds a foundation of justice, compassion, and genuine care in guardianship.

✅ Speak Righteous Words & Counsel Properly [29]

By "speak to them upright speech" it means:

  • Whoever sits by a dying person should:

    • Speak good words to them

    • Encourage charity,

    • Advise them to make a good will,

    • Emphasize the virtue of leaving a rightful legacy for their children

    • And at the moment of death, recite the Kalimah Tayyibah loudly

Also, straight talk with orphans means that:

  • The guardian or counselor should:

    • Treat the orphan with kindness

    • Give them the best education

    • Train them for employment and independence

In short: Treat the orphans exactly as you would treat your own children—with love, dignity, and long-term care in mind.
