📖 Commentary of Surah An-Nisa – Verse 175

"So those who believe in Allah and hold His rope firmly, He will admit them to mercy from Himself and bounty and guide them Himself on a straight path."
(Kanzul Imaan Translation)

✅ [495] Holding Firmly to the “Rope of Allah” – The Manifest Argument

The pronoun “His” in "hold His rope firmly" refers to the “manifest argument” mentioned in the previous verse, which is the Holy Prophet ﷺ.

From this we learn:

  • The “rope of Allah” is the Holy Prophet ﷺ, who is the connecting link between Allah and creation.

  • Just as a rope brings up someone fallen into a well, holding firmly to the Prophet ﷺ brings a person out of misguidance.

  • This connection to the Prophet ﷺ is essential to attain Divine mercy and success.

Allah says:
"And hold fast all together by the rope of Allah." (Surah Aal-e-Imran, 3:103)

This verse clearly implies that the Holy Prophet ﷺ is both the guide to Allah and the means of deliverance for the ummah.

✅ The Dual Connection of the Prophet ﷺ

The analogy of a rope suggests that:

  • One end is with Allah Almighty, and

  • The other end is extended to mankind through the Prophet ﷺ

Thus, those who hold fast to the Prophet’s teachings, love, and obedience are those who are truly guided.

✅ Three Rewards Promised by Allah

For those who believe in Allah and cling to the Prophet ﷺ:

  1. Rahmah (Mercy) – a general Divine grace encompassing both dunya and aakhirah

  2. Fadl (Bounty) – exclusive Divine gifts beyond one’s deeds

  3. Hidayah (Guidance) – direct Divine guidance on the Straight Path (Sirat al-Mustaqeem)
