📖 Commentary of Surah An-Nisa – Verse 79

“Whatever good comes to you is from Allah [254], and whatever evil reaches you is from yourself [255]. And O beloved (Muhammad ﷺ), We have sent you as a Messenger to all mankind [256]. And Allah is sufficient as a witness (to that).”

✅ [254] Goodness – A Gift from Allah

All forms of goodness, whether in the world or the Hereafter, come directly from the grace and mercy of Allah Almighty.

He is the source of:

  • Sustenance

  • Health

  • Guidance

  • Victory

  • Success in both worlds

No matter what the situation, every blessing is a manifestation of His mercy.

✅ [255] Evil – A Consequence of One’s Own Deeds

Any trial, suffering, or misfortune that befalls a person is a result of their own wrong actions or shortcomings.

This serves as a reminder of:

  • Human accountability

  • The need for repentance

  • The importance of avoiding sin

So while Allah allows the consequence, the root cause lies within human behavior.

This verse complements the earlier statement in Verse 78:

“Everything is from Allah,”
by clarifying the mechanism of cause and consequence.

✅ [256] The Prophet ﷺ – Messenger to All Mankind

Here, Allah addresses His Beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, confirming:

  • That he has been sent as a Messenger to all of humanity—not a specific tribe or nation, but universally for all times.

  • His message is for every person, in every land, until the Day of Judgment.

And Allah Himself is the Witness to this Prophethood—there is no greater testimony than that.
