📖 Commentary of Surah An-Nisa – Verse 122

“And those who believe and do good deeds [367], soon We shall cause them to enter gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever. The promise of Allah is true [368]. And who is more truthful in a statement than Allah?”

✅ Faith Before Deeds and Their Role in Salvation [367]

From this verse, several important points emerge:

  1. Belief takes precedence over deeds, as without sound belief, no deed is accepted in the sight of Allah.

  2. Good deeds are essential for salvation. No matter how pious a believer is, he cannot rely on belief alone without righteous actions.

  3. Good deeds are not part of faith itself, nor are they its core. The structure of the verse shows “belief” and “good deeds” as distinct elements joined by a conjunction, indicating separate requirements.

  4. The reference to reward implies that the Day of Judgment is near, even if it seems distant to us in worldly terms.

✅ Allah’s Promise of Paradise is Certain [368]

This verse affirms that Paradise is guaranteed for those who believe and do good deeds, making it a certainty rather than a mere hope.

Therefore, if anyone doubts the entry of a Companion like Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddiq (RA) into Paradise—after Allah and His Messenger ﷺ have confirmed it—such a person is considered an infidel, as they falsely accuse Allah of being untruthful (Allah forbid).

Truly, no one is more truthful than Allah, and His promises are absolute and final.
