    وَلَئِنۡ أَصَٰبَكُمۡ فَضۡلٞ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ لَيَقُولَنَّ كَأَن لَّمۡ تَكُنۢ بَيۡنَكُمۡ وَبَيۡنَهُۥ مَوَدَّةٞ يَٰلَيۡتَنِي كُنتُ مَعَهُمۡ فَأَفُوزَ فَوۡزًا عَظِيمٗا

    Transliteration:( Wa la'in asaabakum fadlum minal laahi la yaqoolanna ka al lam takum bainakum wa bainahoo mawaddatuny yaa laitanee kuntu ma'ahum fa afooza fawzan 'azeemaa )

    73. And if you obtain a bounty from Allah[234], then he would certainly say, as if there was no affection between you and him[235]: "O, I wish I had been with them so I could have attained great triumph." (Kanzul Imaan Translation)

    (73) But if bounty comes to you from Allāh, he will surely say, as if [i.e., showing that] there had never been between you and him any affection, "Oh, I wish I had been with them so I could have attained a great attainment."[197] (Saheen International Translation)

    📖 Commentary of Surah An-Nisa – Verse 73

    “And if you obtain a bounty from Allah [234], then he would certainly say, as if there was no affection between you and him [235]: ‘O, I wish I had been with them so I could have attained great triumph.’”

    ✅ [234] Victory and Spoils – A Bounty from Allah

    By “bounty from Allah”, it is meant victory over the enemy, as well as the spoils of war.

    This reflects the Muslim perspective:
    Such victories are not seen as a result of bravery or military might, but rather as a gift and bounty from Allah Almighty.

    True believers acknowledge divine support in all success, while hypocrites focus only on worldly outcomes.

    ✅ [235] Desiring Gain Without Loyalty – A Sign of Hypocrisy

    The hypocrite expresses his wish to have joined the believers only after seeing their success, saying:

    “I wish I had been with them so I could have attained great triumph.”

    This attitude shows:

    • No real love or loyalty to the Muslims.

    • Selfishness, as he only wants to share in worldly gains.

    • A complete lack of faith and sincerity.

    From this, we learn that:

    To wish to be with Muslims solely for material benefit, while being absent in times of hardship, is a sign of hypocrisy.

    True believers are expected to be firmly with the Muslim community in both religious and worldly matters, through loyalty, sacrifice, and sincerity.

    (4:73) And if a bounty from Allah is given you, he says – and says as if there never was any affection between you and him – ‘Oh, would that I had been with them, I would have come by a great gain.

    Ala-Maududi

    (4:73) And if a bounty from Allah is given you, he says – and says as if there never was any affection between you and him – ‘Oh, would that I had been with them, I would have come by a great gain.

    There is no commentary by Abul Maududi available for this verse.

    (73) But if bounty comes to you from Allāh, he will surely say, as if [i.e., showing that] there had never been between you and him any affection, "Oh, I wish I had been with them so I could have attained a great attainment."[197]

    [197]- The spoils of war. Although having pretended to befriend the believers in support of Allāh's religion, the hypocrite will not be willing to fight except for material gain.
