📖 Commentary of Surah An-Nisa – Verse 45

"And Allah knows well your enemies [167]. And Allah is sufficient as a Guardian, and Allah is sufficient as a Helper [168]."

✅ Recognizing True Enemies Based on Faith [167]

From this we learn:

  • If Allah has declared someone an enemy, we must also treat them as enemies,
even if they are outwardly close—such as a friend, child, or spouse.

Allah says: "Your wives and your children are your enemies, so beware of them." (Surah At-Taghabun, 64:14)

This verse teaches:

  • An irreligious person, even if a close relative, is not a true ally of a believer.

  • On the other hand, a true believer, even if a stranger, is a friend to the believer.

Faith is the ultimate bond—not blood relation or worldly ties.

✅ Allah is the Ultimate Protector and Guide [168]

This part of the verse assures believers:

  • Allah’s protection is sufficient against the schemes and plans of enemies.

  • His divine guardianship encompasses both worldly and spiritual safety.

In particular:

  • The Noble Companions of the Prophet ﷺ were protected from misguidance by the grace of Allah.

  • It is even said that whoever the Companions looked upon with mercy was also protected from being misled.

Thus, Allah is not only a Guardian (Wakil) but also the most powerful Helper (Nasir) for the believers.
