Transliteration:( Wa in kaana Ashaabul Aikati lazaalimeen )
And verily, the people of the thicket [the people of Shu'ayb] were surely unjust [90]
(Kanzul Imaan Translation)
This verse refers to the people of Prophet Shu'ayb (عليه السلام), who are identified in the Qur’an as the "companions of the thicket" (Ashab al-Aykah).
The term "thicket" points to their geographical setting — a region filled with dense, lush gardens and greenery, representing earthly beauty and prosperity.
Despite these worldly blessings, they were unjust and transgressed the limits set by Allah. Their injustice included cheating in trade, denial of Prophets, and moral corruption.
Like other destroyed nations, their material affluence did not save them. This serves as a reminder that injustice and disbelief invite the Divine wrath, regardless of worldly status.
(15:78) And the people of Aykah were also wrong-doers.[43]
43. The people of Al-Aikah were the community of Prophet Shuaib (peace be upon him) and were called Midianites after the name of their capital city and their territory. As regards Al-Aikah, it was the ancient name of Tabuk and literally means a thick forest.
