Transliteration:( Allazeena aatainaa humul Kitaaba ya'rifoonahoo kamaa ya'rifoona abnaaa'ahum; allazeena khasirooo anfusahum fahum laa yu'minoon )
41. Just as the father knows his son before proof of his birth, these people too know the Holy Prophet in a like | manner. The father learns to identify the son only through hearsay and after the child has reached the age of discretion. Hence, the identification of the son is greater, therefore the comparison is given through his knowledge, otherwise, the Holy Prophet is like a father. From this, we also learn that mere identification of knowing the Holy Prophet ? is not faith declaring belief in him is faith.
42. They remained in loss by not accepting faith out of envy and their names are listed with those whose death will be on infidelity. It should be remembered that the infidelity of Satan was due to envy. Those who bear envy towards a prophet or a saint or the noble Companions of would the Holy Prophet ? hardly declare faith, as they are following the footsteps of Satan.

The tafsir of Surah Al-Anam verse 20 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Anam ayat 17 which provides the complete commentary from verse 17 through 21.
(6:20) Those whom We have given the Book will recognize this just as they recognize their own ofspring;[14] but those who have courted their own ruin will not believe.
14. Those who have knowledge of the Scriptures know for sure that God is One alone and that no one shares His godhead with Him. It is true that one can spot one’s own child even in the midst of a large crowd of children. The same can be said about those well-versed in the Scriptures. Even if the true concept of godhead were interspersed among numerous false beliefs and concepts about God, those well-versed in the scriptural lore would be able to recognize without doubt which doctrine was true.
[299]- The Qur’ān. Also interpreted as "him," meaning Muḥammad (ﷺ).
