📖 Commentary of Surah Al-An’aam – Verse 5

"Then indeed they falsified [9] the truth when it came to them, so now the news will come to them of that which they were mocking [10]."

✅ Denial of Divine Revelation and Messenger [9]

The phrase “falsified the truth” refers to the rejection of the Qur’an, the Prophet ﷺ, his miracles, and the commands of Allah. The disbelievers deliberately denied divine truth, choosing arrogance over submission. This verse highlights their wilful rejection despite the truth being clear and evident.

✅ The Reality of Mocked Warnings Will Soon Arrive [10]

The “news” mentioned here refers to the very punishments and warnings the disbelievers used to mock—whether it be the defeat at Badr, punishment at death, torment in the grave, or judgment on the Day of Resurrection. These consequences are not distant or abstract—they are imminent and real, soon to unfold before them.

The tafsir of Surah Al-Anam verse 5 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Anam ayat 4 which provides the complete commentary from verse 4 through 6.

(6:5) and thus they gave the lie to the Truth that has now come to them. Soon they will come upon some news concerning what they had mocked at.[4]

Ala-Maududi

(6:5) and thus they gave the lie to the Truth that has now come to them. Soon they will come upon some news concerning what they had mocked at.[4]

4. The allusion is to the Migration (Hijrah) and the numerous victories destined to follow it in quick succession. When this allusion was made, the unbelievers could not have guessed what kind of news they would receive, and even the Muslims could not have imagined those developments. Infact, the Prophet himself (peace be on him) was not fully aware of the posibilities which lay in store.

(5) For they had denied the truth when it came to them, but there is going to reach them the news of what they used to ridicule.[293]

[293]- They will experience the reality of what they had denied and the consequence of their denial.
