📖 Commentary of Surah Al-An’aam – Verse 83

"And this is the argument that We gave to Ebrahim against his people [166]. We raise in [167] degrees whom We please [168]. Indeed, your Lord is Wise, Knowing."

✅ Prophetic Knowledge is Divinely Inspired and Argument is from Allah [166]

This verse clarifies that Prophet Ibrahim’s arguments were divinely inspired, not learned through human instruction. Prophets are taught directly by Allah and are governed by His will alone. His saying “This is my Lord” regarding the sun and stars was not shirk, but a divine proof. Allah called it “Our Argument,” showing its origin and authenticity from the Divine.

✅ Ranks are Elevated by Allah’s Grace [167]

The phrase “We raise in degrees whom We please” shows that elevation in status is by Allah’s bounty, not merely human effort. He chooses whom to honor and guide based on His wisdom. The spiritual ranks of Prophets are a result of this divine selection, reflecting exclusive blessings not tied to material or learned achievements.

✅ Prophets Are Superior by Divine Choice, Not Deeds Alone [168]

The bestowal of high rank is not based on actions alone but on Allah’s grace. Just as angels prostrated to Adam عليه السلام even before he performed a single act of worship, so too are Prophets superior to all creation by divine command. This verse confirms that no one is equal to Prophets, and to compare them to ordinary people contradicts divine revelation.
