📖 Commentary of Surah Al-An’aam – Verse 76

"So when the night covered him, he saw a star. He said, 'This is my Lord' [153]. But when it set, he said, 'I do not like those that set' [154]."

✅ Ibrahim عليه السلام Rejects Star Worship in a Logical Way [153]

Due to the threat of infanticide by Namrood, Ibrahim عليه السلام was hidden by his mother for several years. When he emerged, he saw his people worshipping celestial bodies. His statement, “This is my Lord,” was not belief, but a rejection through rhetorical questioning. As a Prophet, he was sinless and used this method to disprove idol worship logically, not to affirm it.

✅ Prophetic Intelligence in Refuting False Beliefs [154]

When the star disappeared, Ibrahim عليه السلام declared that he did not like things that disappear. This demonstrated a rational argument—anything that sets and changes cannot be divine. Such statements show the depth of prophetic wisdom, which is inspired directly by Allah. Prophets possess true understanding even without formal instruction, guided purely by divine revelation.

[322]- In verses 76-79, beginning from the people's own assertions, Abraham presents a picture of his dissatisfaction as the only logical conclusion one could reach, in order to show them the futility of their false objects of worship.
