📖 Commentary of Surah Al-An’aam – Verse 69

"And there is no account for the righteous people, but [it is] a reminder, so that perhaps they may be mindful [137]."

✅ No Blame on the Righteous for Speaking the Truth [137]

This verse clarifies that the righteous are not to be held accountable for the wrongdoing of disbelievers when they engage in propagation or debate. Their duty is to convey the message with wisdom and remind people of the truth. Sitting among non-believers for da’wah or refuting false beliefs is not only allowed but can lead to spiritual benefit and awakening.

Ibn-Kathir

The tafsir of Surah Al-Anam verse 69 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Anam ayat 66 which provides the complete commentary from verse 66 through 69.

(6:69) For those who are God-fearing are by no means accountable for the others except that it is their duty to adinonish them; maybe then, they will shun evil.[45]

Ala-Maududi

(6:69) For those who are God-fearing are by no means accountable for the others except that it is their duty to adinonish them; maybe then, they will shun evil.[45]

45. Those who avoid disobedience to God will not be held responsible for the errors of those who disobey. This being the case, the former have no justification for taking it upon themselves to persuade the latter to obedience or to consider themselves obliged to answer all their questions, however absurd and flimsy, until the Truth is forced down their throats. Their duty is merely to admonish and place the Truth before those whom they find stumbling about in error. If there is no response to this call except remonstration and obstinate argument they are under no obligation to waste their time and energy on them. They should rather devote their time and energy to instructing and admonishing those who have an urge to seek out the Truth.

(69) And those who fear Allāh are not held accountable for them [i.e., the disbelievers] at all, but [only for] a reminder - that perhaps they will fear Him.
