Transliteration:( Wa kaifa takfuroona wa antum tutlaa 'alaikum Aayaatul laahi wa feekum Rasooluh; wa mai ya'tasim billaahi faqad hudiya ilaa Siraatim Mustaqeem )
"How can you disbelieve when Allah's verses are being recited to you and His Messenger is among you [223]? Whoever seeks support from Allah [224] is guided to the Straight Path [225]."
You have enjoyed the august companionship of the Holy Prophet ﷺ, you have listened to the Holy Qur'an directly from the receiver of the Qur'an, and you have been protected from evil beliefs. This verse is a direct address to the Companions (Sahabah), questioning how they could even think of internal conflict while being surrounded by such powerful spiritual blessings. From this, we understand that all those wars in the ranks of the Companions after the departure of the Holy Prophet ﷺ were not based on personal considerations, as was the case among non-believers, but rather were grounded in religious differences of opinion. Whoever regards their wars as personal is denying the truth of this verse.
The verse places the Messenger ﷺ before the mention of Allah’s support, to indicate that believers should first seek the protection and guidance of the Prophet ﷺ. His presence served as a spiritual shield and moral compass. Therefore, the word “Messenger” has been intentionally mentioned first, showing that divine help is accessed through adherence to the Prophetic path.
The Straight Path (Sirat al-Mustaqeem) referred to in this verse is not limited to correct beliefs; it also includes righteous deeds and communal harmony. Living in a brotherly atmosphere, avoiding conflict, and upholding moral integrity are part of walking this path. Thus, the verse teaches that the Straight Path is a combination of sound faith and virtuous action, embedded in unity and mutual respect among believers.
