"Please declare: 'We believe in Allah and what has been revealed to us, and in that which was sent down to Ibrahim, Ismail, Ishaq, Yaqub, and the Tribes [185], and whatever was given to Musa and Isa and the Prophets from their Lord [186]. We make no distinction between any of them [187], and we are Muslims [188] to Him.'"
This refers to the scrolls of Hazrat Ibrahim (peace be upon him), upon which these noble Prophets acted.
Most of them were not given complete Books, but followed earlier scriptures and Divine guidance.
We believe in all Prophets, but our belief in the Holy Prophet ﷺ is detailed and comprehensive.
We are not required to follow the Shariah of previous Prophets.
However, full obedience to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is obligatory.
This means we believe equally in all Prophets.
But the obedience shown to the Holy Prophet ﷺ is greater — his followers accepted all previous Prophets without objection.
Whereas, many followers of earlier Prophets refused to accept the Holy Prophet ﷺ.
This also shows that while previous laws may be abrogated, their Prophethood remains valid.
A Muslim must declare his faith sincerely through actions and character.
Hypocrisy, deceit, or following the ways of non-believers while claiming Islam is rejected.
True submission is both internal and external.
The tafsir of Surah Imran verse 84 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Imran ayat 83 which provides the complete commentary from verse 83 through 85.
(3:84) Say: ‘We believe in Allah and what was revealed to us and what was revealed to Abraham and Ishmael and to Issac and Jacob and his descendents, and the teachings which Allah gave to Moses and Jesus and to other Prophets. We make no distinction between any of them[72] and to Him do we submit.
72. They are told that it is not the habit of Muslims either to believe in Prophets and disbelieve in others or to affirm to the truth of some call others false. Muslims are free from narrow prejudices and chauvinistic loyalties. The true attitude of Muslims is to bear witness to truth of every Messenger of God, irrespective of where and when he appears.
