📖 Commentary of Surah Aal-e-Imran – Verse 166

“And what struck you on the day when two armies [376] met (at Uhud) was by Allah’s leave [377], that He might make the believers distinguished.”

✅ [376] Apparent Defeat by Divine Design

The apparent defeat at the Battle of Uhud was not a random occurrence, but took place in accordance with Divine will and wisdom. Even the errors of the pious occur only with the permission of Allah Almighty. There is deep divine wisdom hidden in such events. The setback at Uhud served a higher purpose, as trials often reveal the inner strength and sincerity of individuals.

✅ [377] Divine Permission Behind the Error

From this we learn that even the mistakes of those close to Allah—such as the Noble Companions—occur with Allah’s permission, and serve multiple wise purposes.

The entire universe came into existence due to one error of Hazrat Adam (peace be upon him). Similarly, the leaving of the Pass at Uhud was a mistake, yet Allah refers to it as occurring with His leave, not out of disobedience or rebellion.

This verse implies that their minor errors are still more valuable than our worship, and such occurrences unfold deeper divine plans, as will be explained in the verses that follow.
