Transliteration:( Iz hammat taaa'ifataani minkum an tafshalaa wallaahu waliyyuhumaa; wa 'alal laahi falyatawakkalil mu'minoon )
"When your two groups intended cowardice [268], but Allah was their protector. And upon Allah should the believers rely."
The two groups referred to here are Bani Salma from Khazraj and Bani Harith from Aus, both from among the Ansaar. During the Battle of Uhud, they had intended to flee the battlefield, thinking it was the expedient course of action at the time. However, this was an interpretative error (ijtihadi mistake) on their part.
From this, we learn that merely intending a sin, or even committing it, does not exclude a person from the mercy of Allah Almighty or from faith (iman). Although the intention to show cowardice in battle is regarded as a major sin, Allah still declares, "Allah is their supporter" — and Allah Almighty is only the supporter of true believers, not disbelievers.
Thus, anyone who speaks ill of these Companions, despite Allah defending them, would be committing disbelief, as they would be rejecting what Allah Himself has affirmed.

95. This refers to Banu Salamah and Banu Harithah, whose morale had been undermined as a result of the withdrawal of ‘Abd Allah b. Ubayy and his followers.
