Transliteration:( Wa laqad nasarakumul laahu bi-Badrinw wa antum azillatun fattaqul laaha la'allakum tashkuroon )
"And indeed, Allah helped you at Badr when you were without resources [269]. So fear Allah, that perhaps you may be grateful."
The Battle of Badr was fought on Friday, 17th Ramadan, 2 A.H. The Muslim army consisted of only three hundred and thirteen fighters, whereas the Kuffaar numbered one thousand. The Muslims were poorly equipped, lacking sufficient weapons and armor, while the enemy was fully armed and ready for battle.
Badr was originally the name of a well dug by a man named Badr ibn Aamir. The battle took place near this well, and today Badr refers to a small settlement located between Makkah and Madina, along the old road leading to Madina.
This verse reminds believers of Allah’s miraculous help despite their lack of resources, and commands them to fear Allah, so that they may become grateful and obedient.
