Transliteration:( Fanaadat hul malaaa'ikatu wa huwa qaaa'imuny yusallee fil Mihraabi annal laaha yubashshiruka bi Yahyaa musaddiqam bi Kalimatim minal laahi wa saiyidanw wa hasooranw wa Nabiyyam minas saaliheen )
"So the angels called to him while he was standing in prayer in the chamber: Surely, Allah gives you glad-tidings of Yahya [85], who shall confirm the truthful (sacred) words from Allah [86]. He will be princely and chaste [87], and will be a Nabi from among the righteous people."
This verse shows that angels are granted knowledge of the unseen. The angel informed Hazrat Zakariya (AS) not only of a coming son, but also that the child would be a Prophet with specific qualities.
This is also proof of Prophets’ knowledge of the unseen, as Zakariya (AS) knew of Yahya's blessed attributes before birth.
“Kalimah min Allah” (Word from Allah) refers to Hazrat Isa (AS).
Hazrat Yahya (AS) would confirm his truth and act as his chief supporter and witness.
“Chaste” refers to one who avoids worldly relations, particularly abstains from women, not due to inability, but by choice—to focus on worship and spirituality.
This is not impotence, as Prophets are free from such defects.
The tafsir of Surah Imran verse 39 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Imran ayat 38 which provides the complete commentary from verse 38 through 41.
(3:39) As he stood praying in the sanctuary, the angels called out to him: Allah gives you good tidings of John (Yahya),[38] who shall confirm a command of Allah ,[39] shall be outstanding among men, utterly chaste, and a Prophet from among the righteous.’
38. In the Bible his name is mentioned as John the Baptist. For information about him see Matthew 3, 9 and 14: Mark 1 and 6; Luke 1 and 3.
39. The ‘command from Allah’ signifies Jesus (peace be on him). His birth took place as the result of an extraordinary command from God and in an unusual manner, hence he is designated as ‘the command’ or ‘word’ from Allah.
[123]- Referring to the prophet Jesus (upon whom be peace) , who was conceived merely by a command from Allāh - the word "Be."
