Transliteration:( Innal lazeenash tarawul kufra bil eemaani lai yadurrul laaha shai'anw wa lahum 'azaabun aleem )
“Those who purchased [400] infidelity for faith, never will harm Allah at all, and for them is a painful punishment.”
The phrase “purchased infidelity for faith” refers to two categories of people:
Apostates – those who were initially Muslims but later rejected Islam and chose disbelief instead.
Persistent disbelievers or hypocrites – those who had the opportunity and understanding to accept faith, but still willfully rejected it.
In both cases, these individuals consciously chose disbelief over belief, knowing the truth. Despite this, the verse assures that such people can never harm Allah or His religion in the slightest.
Their betrayal or rejection only harms their own souls, and their fate is a painful and humiliating punishment in the Hereafter.
