📖 Commentary / Tafsir of Surah Aal-e-Imran – Verse 133

"And run [283] towards forgiveness from your Lord and a garden (Paradise) as wide as the heavens and the earth [284] is prepared for the pious [285]."

✅ [283] Hasten Toward Repentance and Worship

The phrase “run towards” implies that one should hasten towards repentance, perform prayers sincerely, and forgive one another in acts of righteousness. From this, we learn that prayers should be offered with utmost devotion, as if each one might be the final prayer of our lives. This attitude instills humility, urgency, and sincerity in worship.

✅ [284] Vastness of Paradise

If the width of Paradise is described as being as vast as the heavens and the earth, then its length must be even greater. This reflects the immense magnitude and limitless bounty of Paradise. Generally, the length of a thing exceeds its width, so the description serves to amplify the awe and vastness of the eternal reward promised by Allah.

✅ [285] Paradise for the Pious, and Through Their Mediation

Although Paradise is primarily prepared for the pious, there are others who will enter it without good deeds, and some even with bad deeds, by virtue of the intercession of the pious. Examples include deceased minor Muslim children, and those sinners who are pardoned through the intercession of the Holy Prophet ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ has said: “My intercession is for the major sinners among my followers.” This shows the mercy of Allah and the elevated status of intercession in Islam.
