📖 Commentary / Tafsir of Surah Aal-e-Imran – Verse 6

"It is He Who shapes you in the wombs of your mothers as He pleases. Besides Him, none is worthy of worship; He is the Exalted, the Wise [7]."

✅ [7] Divine Will Behind Human Creation and Design

This verse teaches that even though angels are appointed to shape the foetus in the mother’s womb, the act is ultimately attributed to Allah — because it is done by His command.

  • Therefore, the actions of Allah’s chosen servants, when done under His command, are considered Allah’s own actions.

It further emphasizes that the design, shape, and form of the earth and all creatures are not the result of human effort — they are determined solely by Divine Will.

However, there is a key distinction:

  • In the worldly creation, everything is based on Allah’s decision alone.

  • In the Hereafter, a person’s state will be determined by their own deeds.

🔸 As Allah says:
“On the Day when some faces will be white (bright) and some faces will be black (dark).” (Surah Aal-e-Imran, 3:106)
This indicates that human choices and actions will define their eternal outcome, even though their physical creation was not in their control.

Please refer to Surah Imran ayat 5 which provides the complete commentary from verse 5 through 9.

(3:6) It is He Who fashions you in the wombs as He wills.[4] There is no God but He; the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.

Ala-Maududi

(3:6) It is He Who fashions you in the wombs as He wills.[4] There is no God but He; the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.

4. This refers to two important facts. The first is that no being knows human nature as well as God does; it is thus imperative that man should depend on the guidance revealed by God, something man needs the most. The second is that the Being Who takes care of all of man’s requirements, major and minor, from the time of conception onwards, will not fail to provide guidance for man’s conduct in this life.

(6) It is He who forms you in the wombs however He wills. There is no deity except Him, the Exalted in Might, the Wise.
