Transliteration:( Am hasibtum an tadkhulul Jannnata wa lammaa ya'lamil laahul lazeena jaahadoo minkum wa ya'lamas saabireen )
"Or do you suppose [300] that you will enter Paradise [301] while Allah has not yet tested those among you who strive and made evident the patient ones [302]?"
This verse is in the form of a question, meaning: do not presume or doubt. It does not suggest that the Noble Companions actually held such a belief, as they were completely protected from such erroneous thoughts. Rather, the question is meant to teach and remind that attaining Paradise requires effort, sacrifice, and patience.
The stay of Hazrat Adam (Peace be upon him) in Paradise was for the purpose of education and blessing, so that he would descend to the world with knowledge and spiritual training. Similarly, the Holy Prophet’s ﷺ ascension to Paradise on the Night of Me’raj was for the purpose of affirmation, not reward.
In this verse, Paradise is referred to as a goal or destination, with various paths leading to it. For example, minor Muslim children may be rewarded Paradise due to their parents, and sinners like us may be admitted through the intercession and mercy of the Holy Prophet ﷺ. As Allah says:
“We joined them with their offspring” (Surah At-Tur, Verse 21).
Hence, there is no contradiction in the use of the term “entering Paradise”, as it can occur through various divine means.
Ala-Hazrat (May Allah be pleased with him) explains that the term "to make evident" here refers to knowledge through testing, trial, and effort, i.e., worldly or acquired knowledge, not Divine knowledge, which is eternal and complete. Thus, the meaning is clear and precise.
From this we understand that those who turned back at the Battle of Uhud may be reprimanded, but their forgiveness has been confirmed by Allah. Therefore, anyone who criticizes them now would be considered a rejecter of the Holy Qur'an, as this verse defends them through divine authority.
